22nd of November 2005 was a day of celebration at the FURUNO INS Training Center (INSTC) in Copenhagen, Denmark. As the first training center in the world, (established by FURUNO ELECTRIC COMPANY, LTD.), the INSTC received the certificate of approval from Det Norske Veritas (DNV) Sea Skill for the training courses in the use of their Electronic Chart Display and Information System (ECDIS).
The ECDIS training course complies with the rules laid out by IMO, the IMO Model Course 1,27. The certificate of approval was granted by close co-operation between DNV Sea SkillTM and FURUNO, and is in line with DNV’s focus on improving the skills of the crew members.
The Trainee will, after passing the compulsory examination, receive a ECDIS Certificate that is acknowledged by DNV Sea Skill and which comply with the rules laid by IMO for ECDIS training. This certificate will fullfill the demand from Port State, Coast Guard, Vetting and Classification societies for documentation of training.
